Monday October 23, 2017 begins Homecoming spirit week, a competition between classes, at Downingtown West High School. This year’s spirit week includes: Monday-Pajama Day, Tuesday-Twin Day, Wednesday-Disney Day, Thursday-Blue and Gold Day, and Friday-Pink-Out. Student council co-president, Sydney Rutkowski, explains how each day’s spirit wear is chosen. First, she explains that Mr. Barker is asked if there are any spirit days that he would like to see that week. Next, “[student council exec board members] brainstorm ideas at [their] exec meetings, and then the officers make the final decision.” For Friday’s Pink-Out, shirts for breast cancer awareness will be on sale for $12 in the cafeteria. All proceeds go to Susan G. Komen.

Student council plans on getting people to participate by posting colorful flyers all throughout the school and uploading daily reminders on their Instagram page @dweststudentcouncil. When asked if there would be a prize for the most spirited class, Sydney answered, “Not yet! We are trying to figure out a prize that everyone in a certain grade level would enjoy.”

Student council looks forward to seeing everyone participate in Homecoming Spirit Week!
