This past Friday night, the Downingtown West Whippets took on cross-town rivals Downingtown East in the Battle of the Brandywine football game. The nail-biting back-and-forth competition ended 31-28 in favor of West, simultaneously making them Ches-Mont League champions.

The final score came from two crucial touchdowns by Dean Hangey (’24) at the start and the end of the game. “I feel really good. I feel like we did a very good job. We played with heart and left it all out there,” Hangey said after the game.

Hangey now holds the Battle of the Brandywine record with an impressive 177 yards.

Other solid contributors were Quinn Henicle (’24), with 20 of 25 passes complete and 364 passing yards, John Mulville (’23) punching in a clutch touchdown, Jake Kucera (’24) with 10 passes for 169 yards, and Jordan Barry (’24) with impressive defensive spots.

This game now lands the Whippets 8-1, with the fourth seed in the PIAA District 1 Class 6A playoffs. They will take on Conestoga High School on November 4 at home at Kottmeyer Stadium.
