The Downingtown West field hockey team wrapped up its incredible season at Kottmeyer Stadium on Wednesday, October 19, beating Avon Grove in a well-played match to claim the Ches-Mont League title.

Before the game, center midfielder Alyssa Freeman (’23) was able to break down a broad game plan for the night. “Our biggest thing is our aggression, connecting passes, and getting on the board first,” said Freeman. She added that she felt the season went so well this year because the team had a good bond and the players were very supportive of each other.

Moving into the game, West was able to dominate both sides of the ball early on. Ashley Plzak (’23) started off a string of goals with an amazing assist from Piper Cline (’24) in the second quarter. Later in the second, the tables were turned with a goal from Cline and an assist from Plzak. Ending the first half with a score of 2-0, West had a strong lead with no intentions of stopping.

Going into the second half, West was able to put up five more goals, clinching a big win over their opponent and deeming Downingtown West the Ches-Mont champions.

Other scorers included Ciara Margetich (’23), Kylie Briggs (’24), and Aimee Largoza (’25).

West will now move on to its first playoff game against Henderson High School on October 26 at Kottmeyer Stadium.
