BOOM! Senior Camryn Tuffner scores yet another point in the Whippets vs. Warriors matchup.
October 24, 2022
It was an exciting afternoon of Downingtown West Girls’ Volleyball on October 11 when the Lady Whippets won two consecutive home games against B. Reed Henderson High School’s JV and varsity Warriors. Captains Bella Terra (’23), Camryn Tuffner (’23), and Darby Weller (’23) led their team to victory in just three sets, with a quick 3-0 varsity win. The JV team, led by captains Kendall Huffman (’25) and Riley Burke (’25), had an equally impressive 2-0 victory.
In the varsity event, Weller and Tuffner wowed the crowd with their powerful spikes, scoring point after point over their opponents. Varsity player Mel Bowman (’23) played a critical role by setting her teammates up, giving them multiple openings to score.
On the JV court, freshman Maya Sanders stood out with incredible serves, and freshman Fallon Mitchell scored the final point with a kill, ending this year’s matchup between the Whippets and the Warriors.
As the girls are wrapping up their 2022 season, Huffman said, “[I’m] sad that the season is coming to an end, but we are proud of how far we made it.”
The girls recently held this year’s senior night to spotlight players Bella Terra, Kaitlin Connors (’23), Mel Bowman, Darby Weller, Camryn Tuffner, and Maddie McCole (’23). Reflecting on her last season with the Whippets, McCole said, “It is bittersweet. While I am so sad about leaving the team, I am excited to see how the team progresses in the next years!”
Off the court, the team supports community outreach programs and organizes charity bake sales. The team rocked pink during the October 11 warm-ups in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, while the stands were “painted” pink with parents and students who participated in the event’s “pink out.”
