Picking where you want to go and spend four years at is difficult–and so is writing an essay for your dream college. Each essay is special in its own way because its about your life and a topic you chose to write about. There are ways to make your essay stand out… check them out below!
- Create a good opener of your essay, such as a twist where the reader least expects it
- Do not share every detail of the challenges you’ve encountered or every detail of every moment of your life–focus on one or two key moments or experiences
- Figure a way to end the essay on a positive note, even if the experience shared was negative
- Be direct and make a point to the admission officer(s) who will be reading your words
- Proofread your essay: make sure you have no grammar errors or misspelled words
- Keep track of the length of the essay–many applications have word count limits or ranges that will be accepted
Though writing and submitting your college essay is stressful, keeping the above tips in mind can help you remember what is most important, and that’s sharing your story in a unique way that honors the college or university’s requirements. Best of luck, Class of 2022, as you write your essays!
