The Downingtown West Whippets football team currently stands at 8-1 after recently losing their undefeated streak to the Coatesville Red Raiders. The Whippets still remain the number one team in district one 6A high school football.

Despite the tough loss against the rival Coatesville squad, there have been many bright spots for the Whippets this season, including a huge win against their biggest rival, the Downingtown East Cougars. “It always feels good,” Coach Milano said about West’s win over East. “To me, this is the best rivalry I’ve ever been involved in. To win this game, it’s always special.” The Whippets were able to put up 63 points to the Cougars 35 in a game where the Whippets were led by quarterback Will Howard on offense and many key players on defense.

The Whippets’ regular season is coming to an end with only one game remaining on Friday, October 25, but their season will be extended as they start the first round of playoffs the following week. The Whippets will be rooting for the Downingtown East Cougars to beat Coatesville this week because if indeed the Cougars do win and the Whippets win, the boys are a shoo-in for the Ches-Mont title. Winning the Ches-Mont title would be very big for the Whippets, considering that they haven’t won the title in a while. The boys of West football have high hopes to make it to the State Championship game in Hershey, PA after the amazing season they have had up to this point.
