Course selection a stressful but exciting time of the year. Many students ask themselves questions throughout the process, such as “What should I take?” “How will this class look on my college application?” and “How do I submit my course selection choices?”  Though there are many things to consider, don’t worry!  The course selection process is easier then you might think.

One of the best things about course selection is the ability to review all of the available courses here at West. There are different options for everyone! Artistic people might enjoy ceramics, woodshop, drawing and painting,or even jewelry. Tech-savvy people may enjoy courses in business and computer science education. Those who enjoy journalism, photography, or a combination of both may want to sign up for the Publications elective. There are also music classes like marching band, symphony orchestra, and choir. The options are endless, and you can take any elective that you feel interested in, no experience needed!

For most of your core classes you can choose from different academic levels, including regular, honors, blended or advanced placement (AP). Your teachers will enter their recommendations for what they feel suits you best in your academic career. Additionally, Downingtown West High School also offers you the option of taking completely cyber courses.  You can also choose to receive technical training and apply to and attend TCHS, a technical school where you can dive deeper into the world of hands on learning with whatever course you would like, including cosmetology, automotive tech, and carpentry.

There are many options during course selection time entering your next years of high school, and it’s never too early to start thinking about them. Visit your guidance counselor to discuss your options, talk to upperclassmen about courses they have taken, and discuss with your current teachers the path that may be best for you.  Visit West’s Course Selection info page for more details.
